I've been running a G480 6x6 for a year and a bit, mostly hauling heavy timber. The first thing you notice is climbing up into that cab, three steps and you gotta grab the bar, it's set up high. Interior's good, not fancy but you get what matters, two seats and the bunk's decent for occasional naps-not super wide, but better than some I've used. The heated air-ride seat is probably my favorite thing, stops your back from killing you on bad roads. Controls are right there, nothing you can't reach, and the mirrors staying clear is a plus in winter. Power’s solid, never feels sluggish when loaded, but man it drinks fuel if you're pushing it, I see over 35L/100km easy. Haven't had any breakdowns so far-Scania seems to hold up. Not the cheapest truck to buy or run though, that's for sure. Not sure about the tech bits, but nothing has been a pain yet.

I've had the opportunity to drive the Scania G 480 for several trips, and it's been a solid performer. The in-line six-cylinder engine provides sufficient power and impressive torque, making hauls quite manageable. The Opticruise AMT system offers smooth gear transitions, though it takes a bit of familiarization to fully appreciate its capabilities. The retarder braking system is particularly reliable during downhill maneuvers. While the sleeper cab is comfortable for short rests, it feels a bit narrow for overnight stays. Overall, it balances power and utility well.

Short note from a driver who moves rock every day. The dump body is hard wearing and the rear board opens automatically - saves time when you run dusty, abrasive stuff. Hydraulics are fast and strong, little sticks to the bed thanks to the >50° tip and double cylinders. Lots of safety kit on the cab (beacons, fire system, protection plate) - I feel safer on-site. The third steer axle and pneumatics give good load balance but add complexity, so expect more checks and maybe higher upkeep. Cab is comfy and well insulated, good for long shifts. Overall: solid machine, just watch the extra axle bits if you want simple maintenance.

Short and real: looks tough up front with that big grille and extra lights on the visor. High cab means three steps - fine for highway but annoying on frequent stops. Payload and mass numbers matter: 16.5 t empty and you shouldn't load past 18 t. Top speed limited to 85 km/h when full, so it's not for fast runs. 12-speed box gives you direct feel, shifts are mechanical and firm. Fuel use is heavy (38 L/100km fully loaded) even with a 600L tank, that bites into daily costs. Interior has some nice bits but getting in/out and the narrow bunk made nights a bit cramped for me.
